Hi! I'm JoAnna.

Originally from the East Coast, I have long now called the Bay Area my home. My background includes working in community mental health, crisis intervention as well as providing one on one and couples/family therapy in a hospital setting. I have experience working with people who are going through major (or minor) life transitions, struggling to manage heavy emotions like anger and depression as well as those feeling overwhelmed and inhibited by anxiety or fears. I enjoy bolstering people looking to improve low self-esteem, tuning up social/communication skills and singles dealing with dating issues and individuals and couples working on relationship issues.

Coming from a Behavioral Health discipline as a previous hospital therapist, I also am adept at supporting individuals and their caregivers experiencing complex medical problems as well as a passion for supporting people with serious mental illnesses such as depression, bipolar spectrum disorders, and personality disorders.

I consider my approach to be compassionate, warm and non-judgmental while also knowing how to be a bit more directive when needed. We'll work together to identify patterns that are no longer working for you and challenge them. Through our sessions, you will learn how to identify, approach and cope with the emotions underlying the actions and patterns that are no longer working for you. My hope is that when we are done, you will feel confident to make the changes that will help you to live a more empowered life. If you feel we may be a good fit, reach out! I look forward to hearing from you.
